Before they founded Parkman White, LLP, Jim Parkman and William White-a former prosecutor- battled against one another in court. But in 2003 they joined forces, establishing an elite firm that focuses on white collar crime, criminal defense, bankruptcy, and divorce cases.
“We can handle the most complex, high-profile criminal cases anywhere in the country, as well as criminal, DUI, civil litigation, bankruptcy, probate and domestic cases throughout Alabama, from our offices in Dothan and Birmingham,” White says. “No matter the case, we offer clients rigorous and sophisticated representation in a cost-effective way that many of the larger firms cannot achieve.”
Attorneys at Parkman White, LLP have over 100 years of combined experience in an array of practice areas, with a special emphasis on courtroom litigation. Having taken several hundred cases to a jury verdict, the firm is prepared to represent clients nationwide and in any courtroom in Alabama. Parkman and White, meanwhile, are both AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell, a testament to the fact that their peers in the legal community rank them at the highest level of professional experience.
Parkman, who has handled hundreds of major felony cases during his illustrious 34-year career, credits the firm’s success to its extensive courtroom expertise: “Ultimately, whether you win or lose the case is in the jury’s hands, so in order to secure a victory for your clients you have to know how to win over a jury. And we’ve been involved in hundreds of jury trials over the years, spending thousands of hours in front of juries.”
In one high-profile case, Parkman White, LLP served as trial counsel for a state senator charged with 19 counts of conspiracy, wire fraud, bribery, honest services fraud, money laundering, and asset forfeiture. The firm defended its client through two lengthy federal jury trials, and the state senator was ultimately acquitted on all counts.
The firm also mounted the defense of former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy when he was charged with securities fraud in one of the largest accounting fraud scandals of the century. But with Parkman leading his defense, Scrushy was found not guilty of all 80 charges brought against him, elevating the firm to national and international prominence.
“It’s rewarding when we’re able to help our clients solve their legal problem,” White says. “We understand how challenging these circumstances can be for our clients, so our lawyers and staff members are all committed to helping put these stressful legal issues behind them.”
